Several die in Alabama shootings
|
At least seven people have been killed in a shooting spree across two towns in the southern US state of Alabama.
Officials in the town of Samson say the gunman is among those who died. It is unclear whether he killed himself or was shot by police.
Reports say the gunman started firing at a petrol station in Samson. Five people were also killed in a caravan.
There were further fatalities in a shop in the neighbouring town of Geneva, police told Reuters news agency.
Police say the gunman shot a woman when he started firing at a petrol station in Samson.
He then drove 19km (12 miles) east to Geneva.
Local media report that he shot at several vehicles on the highway before firing at two shops in Geneva.
At one point, law enforcement officers rammed the suspect's car and gunfire was exchanged, according to reports.
The man eventually died in a store in Geneva.
Local media also say several people were wounded during the shootings.
The FBI has sent an agent to assist the local sheriff's office.
Samson has a population of about 2,000 people; Geneva's population is about about 4,400. The towns are near the Florida border.
